Our Story
After Adopt started with one dog.
When we brought Pippa home from our local animal shelter, we thought the hardest part was behind us. She was safe. She had a home. But we quickly realized that adoption day isn’t the end of the story—it’s the beginning of an entirely new one.
Suddenly there were questions about routines, feeding, health, behavior, settling in, and all the little things no one really prepares you for when you walk out of a shelter with a new dog.
We created After Adopt because we believe adopters deserve support for that part, too.
But Pippa almost never made it home.
When we first met Pippa at our local animal shelter, we knew we wanted to bring her home. But what should have been a straightforward adoption became something we never expected.
We were told she was still waiting for an evaluation and to come back when the shelter reopened. What we didn't know was that Pippa had already been placed on the euthanasia list.
Our interest in adopting her ultimately helped get her removed from that list. A short time later, Pippa came home with us.
That experience changed the way we thought about adoption.
There is so much important work being done to help dogs make it out of shelters and into homes. But adoption day isn't where the work ends. It's where a new responsibility begins—for the person who has just promised to care for that dog for the rest of their life.
And those new adopters deserve support, too.
That’s why we created After Adopt.
Bringing a dog home is only the beginning.
The days and months that follow come with questions—about routines, health, behavior, feeding, safety, and everything in between. And too often, new adopters are left to figure it out on their own.
After Adopt exists to make that part easier.
We create practical, thoughtfully designed resources that help dog owners feel more prepared, more confident, and less overwhelmed as they build a life with their new dog.
Because every dog deserves more than a way home. They deserve the support to stay there.
